Today I was repotting one of my many mini catts. when I accidently harmed my plant. My plant needed repotting so I decided to repot it. It was putting out a new growth and new roots. I was in a hurry and like an idiot, I broke off my mini catts. new growth. The new growth was about a week old and very healthy. My plant looks good but will it put out another new growth from the leaf that I broke it off from, or will it put out a new growth on one of the older leaves? Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

They are not leaves, they are either new leads or new pseudobulbs. The leaves come from the top or apex of the pseudobulb. The new growth starts from the base of the pseudobulb near the rhizome.
Yes, most Cattleyas have a total of 4 vegetative "eyes" that produce a new growth. There are two located at the bottom of the pseudobulb. You essentially broke off one of those. There should be a second one located on the opposite side of the bulb from the first. That one should sprout and develop.
In addition, up along the pseudobulb are what we call "emergency eyes". These are located at the base of the pseudobulb, just a little higher up then the major 2.
They are smaller then the primary 2 but in the event that the primary 2 are lost due to mishap or maybe rot, one of those emergency eyes should sprout.

Thanks Bill for your input. I see that you live in Michigan. I'm from Hillsdale and I traded that snow for the heat and humidity of Louisiana. Living in this climate is like living in a greenhouse but the plants really grow fast down here. My maternal grandparents are from down here and I really love the culture and climate. It's hot but it sure beats shoveling snow off of a rooftop. You seem to be an expert on orchid growing so thanks a lot for your input.

Thanks again Bill. I noticed that you are an orchid judge. I belonged to the Baton Rouge Orchid Society and during our annual show, the judges from SWOGA would fight on who would be the judge at our show. The reason was because we fed them very well with home cooked meals. I'm 68 years old and I got interested in orchids in my 20's. My favorite orchid was miltoniopsis. I tried for over thirty years to grow those plants and people would say it was too hot down here. My reply was explain how the people down in New Orleans grow them. After killing a lot of plants for over 30 years I found out the real reason on what I was doing wrong. It sure wasn't the temperature since I grew them in an air conditioned house. A vendor told me to water them with water in those plastic jugs that you can buy at WalMart. I purchased one plant to try what I was told to do about the water. Well, the advice was correct and I haven't killed a plant in over twelve years. The plants are constantly in flower plus they grow like weeds. I still feel sorry for all of the plants that I killed because of receiving advice from people who really never grew them. Whenever I bring a plant in full bloom to the monthly meeting, my fellow orchid growers can't believe their eyes. They are going to have to learn from trial and error how to grow them. I'm not telling them how easy it is to grow those plants.
