Thread OP

Hi,
I'm trying to decide whether to get a Celadine or Singapore White Plumeria? I only have room for one. What does Celadine smell like? What does Singapore White smell like? How do the scents compare? Do they smell similar or very different? Based on only scent, if you could only have one, which would you choose? Thanks in advance.

I bought a Singapore white from Thailand, so it hasn't arrived yet. I love the smell of my celandine! I go out just to take a whiff sometimes. It smells like the bellagio hotel in Vegas.

It would be a hard decision for me too! I love both of them for their fragrance.
Where are you located? Singapore tends to be a bit finicky in a cooler climate.

Thanks for the replay Zyndurai. Unfortunately, I don't remember what the Bellagio hotel smells like :)

Dutchlady1,
I'm located in San Diego. Do the two smell similar? I'm just trying to figure out if I am really missing out if I can't have both of them Smiling

Celadine will do very well for you in San Diego. It has a distinct citrusy smell, and is one of the best. The flowers are the ones most frequently used for leis due to their superior keeping quality.
I have heard that people in your area have trouble growing Singapore, so your decision might be made easier by that. Good luck!

Personally, I would go for the Celadine, since it is much more tolerant of our cold wet winters if it does rain often in winter. Anyways, if your parameter of choosing is just based on scent..either one should do. But I would really caution you to consider more its growing area preference.

Though I have not grown Singapore White Plumeria, anytime it is a Plumeria much more accustomed to a more hot humid environment, I would think twice growing it here in our low humidity Cali weather. Unless you are in the coastal side of SD, then you may have a better chance. Good luck!

Can someone kindly speak to hardiness of the Hong Kong seedling versus Singapore as well as some of the dwarf varietals? How does the scent of the dwarfs compare? Thanks!!

I bought Hong Kong at the recommendation of a friend. He said the scent is outstanding.
My opinion:
The scent is good. the blooms have very poor keeping quality. I am looking to get rid of mine.
