Great!
Waterford Gardens is a really nice place and only a 20 minute car ride from my house. This year they also rented out space to "Kodama Koi", selling the most beautiful Kois I have ever seen.

Looking good. Wow, I wish they had places like that around here, though the prices seem a bit steep.

I have blooming at the moment tropical "Tina" and hardy "Colorado" waterlilies, along with a canna that I love but don't know the name of-yellow flower with orange freckles. The monsoons are starting so all may change soon.

Very nice. Tina is one of my old dependable tropicals, surviving cold and hot waves. Your canna looks like Canna (Canna x generalis 'Orange King Humbert') to me.

I am tempted to take you up on that, but I am afraid it would get lost in the water celery that is taking over my pond.... Thank you though.

Not many blooms this summer, I really do need to get into this pond and repot and fertilize. It's easy to put it off down here, there are no deadlines to clear out the pond before winter.

I did get a shot this morning of the nightbloomer still open in the shade and foxfire opening in the sun.

I am not getting a lot of blooms this summer either - I have plants in my yard that are about a month behind when they normally bloom,

It seems like the most consistent blooms I'm getting are from the night bloomers. The funny thing is that they are all loose in the pond, growing without much dirt or any fertilizer.

I couldn't resist taking another picture of two night blooms this morning with my cat Raui getting a drink. I do love these night blooming lilies as the blooms are so large and stand so high out of the water. They stay open until direct sun hits them which is pretty late in the morning.

They are a deep pink but when they are fully open there is a small amount of white in the center. The pads are a beautiful copper color and can get quite large.

Beautiful blooms. I love the streaks of white at the base of the petals. I've never grown night bloomers, but I don't have much morning shade.

It seems that nightbloomers need more heat, warmer water, to bloom than other tropical lilies. While the other tropicals will bloom off and on through the winter these never bloom until it is full summer and the pond has warmed. This pond is quite deep so it takes longer for the water to heat up and it never gets as warm as my pond on the roof. Up there, they bloom much earlier but they are not as large, perhaps because it is shallower or perhaps because I keep all the lilies there confined in their pots.

I don't know if they are native to this area or just naturalized but there are 2 colors common here, this deep pink and a pure white. They grow in cenotes (sink holes where the roof has fallen in on underground rivers) here in Yucatán because we have no above ground rivers. When we were in Río Dulce down on the Caribbean side of Guatemala, there are acres and acres of the white ones in bays along the river. Incredible to see, all of them blooming and covering the water.
