Does anyone remember when this was a 'plant of the moment'?? Everyone had been growing Dichorisandra thrysifolia for years then Dichorisandra pendulafolia came along. I remember this selling for $40+ on eBay 10 or so years ago. Its nice, but.....not really all that special? I mean I like mine a lot. And I never see it anymore for sale.

Funny I just posted that on the ginger thread. I have it, bought it on clearance, was regular $30, I think but got it 60% off. I like it, the flowers bloom all summer on mine and it likes the shade, hard to find blooming flower that like the shady areas.

I bought it back around 2001 and had it for years. I don't remember seeing it in recent years. That is the problem with having too many plants, you lose sight of some, Whistling , as new plants become the darlings of the garden.

Yeah that is also the contributor to these 'old' plants starting to be considered 'rare' and the prices getting jacked up. There was a mom and pop nursery in Ocala that had Alocasia cuprea and the Black Velvet jewel alocasia for sale last year for $12. They are of course sold out but both these plants are commanding price tags of anywhere from $35-100+ dollars at the moment. Agristarts tissue cultures both these but is not currently producing either. So a false 'market shortage' has been manufactured and people are spending way more than they should for these plants.

Even my mom and pop nursery is getting wise and raising their prices on rare plants. Thumbs down

Our local independent nursery has always been pretty pricey but they don't carry very many unusual plants. Unfortunately.

I used to find some unusual plants, but seems the past few years it's just the same old same old...or maybe I have everything there is to have... Whistling

I just got something cool and relatively cheap online, an Anthurium called xBig Red Bird. It turns red in high light. I think it looks like a plowman cross but no one seems to be certain. Peeps on a dedicated aroid page I am on elsewhere say there are a couple of crosses of it floating around
