So just as the title says, which purple has the best purple flowers? Which does every like better as far as deepest purple, ease of growth, size of bush?

One, that isn't on your list...because you've "disqualified" it, already..' Reine de Violette'.

I have only grown, from your list, Plum Perfect. Hard to tell you how it will do for you since I am in a totally different zone, but Plum Perfect is a great rose. Disease resistant. Beautiful blooms.

Those were just purples off the top of my head. That can also be a choice.

I like Intrigue for it's repeat dk. purply-red blooms which can be fragrant, and I've heard Midnight Blue has been a favorite.

A once bloomer OGR with very purply blooms is Cardinal de Richelieu.

I had Midnight Blue and tore it out (literally) last summer. The blooms were nice for about 30 seconds and then turned the most ugly color of purple grey and shriveled up. I thought it was because of the hot, hot summers we have but I know someone in England (where they don't have hotter than Hades summers) whose Midnight Blue did the exact same thing. I replaced it with Plum Perfect and so far, that rose lives up to its name. It is a great Kordes rose.

I have posted some related info here

https://www.houzz.com/discussi...

Maybe it's helpful. But CN is not a true purple, and sometimes it turns into deep red...

What about the older Stephen's Big Purple (1985)?

It is amazingly fragrant . Very vigorous and grows into a large bush. It's in the parentage of Ebb Tide and of Mid Night Blue. If I can, I'm after a duplicate at least.

If I recall, I'm thinking 'Ebb Tide' may have started out being fairly dark, but fading, rather quickly & that was planted, for specifically being sited to be North Eastern , exposure, just because of it.
If you are thinking more pastel, then maybe it was 'Angel Face', I'm remembering, possibly ?
I don't think there are any Austin's that are really, truly "purple"...
Isn't there one called 'Veitchen Blue' ? But perhaps that isn't enough petals, to your liking...
Maybe there is a newer variety, , more recently produced, that has come along, since. I suppose, I could check the Database, here..

I don't know much about this one, as I'd never heard of it before, until just now.. , but there is one called 'Black Bird' & may actually be too dark, for your preferences ? Unless, it lightens up a little more, as it ages.. Don't know much about it all, like I've mentioned.
I would probably go for RDV, as I tend to recall, the "real one", didn't have much in the way of thorns.....You mainly need to take into consideration a good proper site, for it, to perform at it's best.

Shawn if you consider the dark red-purple within the search span, then there are quite a few DA's that could meet that: William Shakespeare 2000, The Prince, Munstead Wood, amongst quite a few more

Imo, they are all well worthy; I've got (only.... Sighing! )the first two in my garden!

Arturo, I would almost have to "beg" to differ on those, as they are actually described as being of the color "red" ! Possibly, with enough shade at the blossoms, they may tend to have some purple tint, about them, but not the color 'purple' that is being requested.. Though if it were me, I'd want all, of those David Austin's, no matter what color they'd call them ! haha

Yes, they are a lovely purple in those photos, but in my much warmer garden, they would all be red - still beautiful, no doubt, but red.

I've got Plum Perfect, Midnight Blue and Blueberry Hill in my garden and Natasha Monet in a pot.

Plum Perfect is a rock star for me. Super productive, disease resistant and aphid resistant if that's even a thing? I doubt it but for whatever reason they did not prefer it at all and were much happier sucking up my Moondance bushes. The color is lavender/mauve and it holds up pretty well until it gets very hot and/or the blooms get old. Then they started to fade while the edges turned a deeper mauve.

Midnight Blue is a little baby still so not as vigorous as PP. The color is a deep purple/mauve pretty much like all the roses Arturo posted pics of.

Blueberry Hill is also a little baby still I've gotten maybe 5 blooms off him this year. The color is really pretty, much more lavender and the flower form is different than any other rose I have with it's low petal count but I like the contrast.

Natasha Monet as I said is still in a pot. She's one of the roses I ordered from RU's summer sale. She's partially shaded with the rest of my pot ghetto and is doing well. I noticed she's sporting a couple of buds this week so I'm excited to see how the blooms look. The coloring is very unique lavender/grey.

Good to know!. Mine actually are as purple as pictured! ....Specially WS2000 in full sun!. Yes I do have cool summers here so that may be the answer. In my garden planning that colour is a key contribution. All very interesting! Thanks Shawn.

I think I noticed , they'd even started to carry Kordes roses at the Lowe's near me.. But, I'm sure you ought to fairly easily make up your mind, as to how light, or dark a purple you are willing to accept , as the variety available in that specific color , may not be all that great, when it comes down to it, which for the life of can't understand, why there aren't actually more, unless newer ?

Try the Help Me Find Website, (which does not only Roses, but Clematis & Peonies too, I think) & that may allow you to look up a rose by color & some newer ones may be listed, by using the search function, for rose, by color, & to also help you locate a "source" to buy it from, while you are at it !

See this is exactly why I made this post. You guys have brought so many new purples to my life. I want to get munstead wood for sure. But I'm gonna have room for around 20 roses. Sp I would like to get a few different purples and purple blends. I want to put a munstead wood next to a jude the obscure. I think those next to each other will contrast nicely together. You guys are awesome. Tyvm.

Arturo, most of the 48 States, are having temperatures in the 90 to 100 F degree temperatures currently, while Ann & zuzu, are in Calif .may be near "Coastal " & while, that you selected photo by cliftoncat, is actually in both England & French gardens ( yes, both !)
That Pacific Ocean along West Coastal waters flows southward from Alaska, helping to "cool it off," most of the time, but not getting too hot, either most of the time, due to a marine layer., except at times can get hot on clear sunny summer days...
While, it may tend to get a little cooler in Mountains of West Virginia, I'm not sure, it is very cool, at all, right about now ! (Original post, location, may or may not be in mountains- as didn't say.) While Atlantic waters, tend to flow up from Gulf of Mexico ("Gulf Stream" , current of water) in summer & water is warmer & heats up the Bay water, near me, (but, also helps keep me, warmer in most all winters!) Few exceptions, of severe cold... Yeah, I know, cool temps help keep colors nice, on Roses, for longer & may bloom into December here, but this one here, is in zone 6 & I'm in 8..

Glad you were "talked into" some Austin's as Shakespeare is a good one, as are so many others !
