I love iris, but the tall bearded varieties always seem to fall over. I've tried two dwarf iris, 'Baby Blessed', a yellow re-bloomer, and a very prolific, very short blue variety that I can't identify.

I would like to add more dwarf varieties, particularly in white or red-ish/orange-ish colors. Does anyone have recommendations? Thank You!

Welcome! I second checking out Winterberry....good folks to deal with, and great selection. As to "recommendations"......that's a pretty hard one....it's mostly comes down to what colors / combinations YOU like. I think all the SDB's will preform great for you, in your climate / area, and, I expect that most of the "reblooming" ones will do just that ! Happy shopping !! Thumbs up

Welcome! And I agree that Winterberry's dwarfs should do really well in your climate.

Virginia, I just came in from digging up some dwarfs. I'd much rather send them to you than trash them. They are supposed to be orange "Jive" dwarf irises. They have been in the ground a couple of years and I THINK they did produce an orange bloom. But I got them from Brecks and they were over run by sedum pretty quickly so I can't swear to the color.

Tree mail me an address and I'll clean them up and get them in the mail this week....if someone can help me with mailing info. Can I just put them in a padded envelope with some cardboard?

Virginia, welcome to the iris forum! Welcome!

'Bluebeard's Ghost' is my favorite white SDB, though I've had trouble getting it established in my garden.

'Cat's Eye' is a very popular reddish SDB that grows well in many locations.

Do you live near a local iris society? Many clubs have rhizomes sales where you can acquire varieties that grow well in your area. Here is a link to the local American Iris Society affiliates in your region:

I, too, have found the local Iris society a good source of plants. Mine has a lot of named plants for sale and offer a grab bag of 10 plants for $5. Most of those are not identified, but I have got some gorgeous flowers from them.

There are usually people selling daylilies, too.

Our local iris society just had its sale (every other year) & we sold out of SDBs.
