Hello.

I was hoping to get some horticulture advice or point me in the right direction.
I bought an Ann Magnolia tree two years ago. This will be its second summer in my back yard. Last year there wasn't a problem with it and grew a little. This year I'm only getting leaves on the lower half, the top has no leaves. In fact, I clip a small branch off the top and I think it's dead on top. See the pictures that I have attached. I'm wondering if this happening because of the harsh winter we had in Minneapolis.

What should I do at this point? Should I cut off anything that doesn't have growth? Will it still grow into a tree? Or should a take it out?

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Thanks.

Cousin - this past winter took quite a toll on shrubs in my garden. Blame the polar vortex. Post your question over on the tree and shrub forum. You might get more responses for your tree. If you're going to prune out the dead stuff, do it soon. You wouldn't want young resprouting going into winter.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize that we can't eat money. Cree proverb
