I don't know if Lilllian's Vapor Trail naturally make small fans, but I bought this from an LA seller - listed as two medium fans - and this is what arrived today. In a fairly big priority box which just made them look smaller at first! One piece of flat newspaper in the box, plants beat all to hell. I'm not going to buy from that seller again, live and learn - but a warning that the plant makes small fans would have prepared me. Two of these cost $32 including shipping (which I realize if mostly out of the seller's control). I'm giving them a short soak before I plant them. Are my expectations unreasonable, is this typical for LVT, or typical for medium size? I ask because I plan to forgo feedback for this sale, but if I'm in the wrong I'll reconsider. Thank for letting me vent...Edited to add that the seller has no negative feedback with over 3900 sales, so perhaps I am being peckish...

I don't have Lillian's Vapor Trail but I definitely wouldn't consider that a medium sized fan. Definitely small. A lot of my dormant VL, diploid daylilies have small fans but if I were the seller I'd send ones bigger than that!

Not so say it won't grow and do just fine for you. But I'd agree with you that you'd expect something better.

Thanks - I'm trying to not be a jerk about it, but I'm pretty disappointed in them. I doubt they'll even throw any scapes next year - assuming they make it that far - but if they do I'm going to cut them off so the plants can put their energy towards the roots.

Sweetheart, is this the first time you've received a box of daylilies in the mail? No! That is just not right. The person that sent those plants to you should be ashamed of themselves!

I wish you would send them back. This is my honest opinion. If they were free, just for the price of postage? Ok. But not for that kind of money! Thumbs down Thumbs down Thumbs down

I have LVT and the fans are small-ish in general but bigger than that. I wouldn't be delighted at receiving that.

Yikes. You might have two summers of nothing before that's big enough to put up a scape. Sad

I might email her to express my disappointment - I see that in the past she has refunded $$ to another buyer for poor plants that she, the seller, felt were not up to her standard. I can't imagine what they looked like.

Edited to say I sent her a message - a very polite one - explaining my dissatisfaction. Nothing may come of it but I feel much better for it.

So, to wrap up my thread - the seller did refund my $$ which makes me feel much better. I feel it was the right thing to do and shows her to be an ethical proactive seller. She did make a point of telling me though that my photo above shows a normal, typical, and fully acceptable medium size fan. Her concern was how dehydrated it looked. So we'll agree to disagree on size and call it a day. I do appreciate that she listened to me and acted on it. I'm not a confrontational person and it makes me uneasy, so I'm glad it went smoothly!

I'd like a photo of what she considers to be a "small" fan.

I would consider that a very small fan. I would be very embarrassed to send such a fan even for a trade. I am glad that the seller was agreeable to refund your money.

Very good, Cindy! I was concerned that this was your very first shipment and that you would let it go, not knowing any better. Smiling

It's been a bad and hard year for a lot of people. Maybe if you had agreed to take that fan, if it was the only one available anywhere...

In the fall I gift a lot of daylilies. They certainly don't look like that! That little thing should never have made it to the box--it's a throwaway!

Thanks for posting as I was considering a purchase from the same seller on the Lily Auction. Our very own @Spunky is the hybridizer of Lillian's Vapor Trail...I'm sure he can tell you about the fan size.

So glad you got your money back. I have problems with a daylily here and there at this time of the year going dormant. I have sent out some with little more green than that, but the roots on what I sent were much better. That plant will take a lot a tender care.

Glad the issue was resolved. I would not call that a medium sized fan at all. That would be a freebie in my books.
