Thread OP
PA (Zone 6a)
I live in zone 6. Has anyone had success with transplanting a bearded iris this late in the season? I am thinking of lifting it, with the surrounding soil, in a shovel, and putting it in a shallow hole elsewhere.
This one got away from me--it was growing under a shrub, so I haven't seen it bloom yet, and that's why I wanted to try and move it. Thanks for your help.

I'm zone 9 in California, so I may not be the best to guide you.. but I think if you can get all the soil around the roots, and keep it intact, it should be ok... or at least happier than being under a shrub. Big Grin

Yeah, go ahead and move it...with as much soil as you can, You'll probably be best to "weight it down" with a brick, and apply some "loose mulch" over it, as soon as the soil freezes. Just be sure to remove the mulch, in early spring.
