I'm trying to track down the name of this beautiful climber my family had when I was a kid. It was striped, mostly various shades of pink but I think with some white too. It was double or semi-double and its shape was fairly open.

It had a strong fragrance, and was supposed to smell like raspberries. It was a heavy bloomer.

I remember hearing it was bred to thrive in places like our hometown, particularly the kind of soil, I think, though the hot weather sure didn't bother it either. We lived in Lubbock, Texas, which has a layer of rather alkaline clay and sandy loam on top of a bed of clay.

It was a very healthy, happy climber.

Does anyone have any idea what it might be called?

It might be easier to guess if we knew when you were "a kid."

If you're in your thirties, your "kid" days would be considerably different from my own "kid" days, in the 1950's.

Might also help to know WHERE you were a kid.

I'm 25 years old, and I grew up in Lubbock, Texas.

I've found a possibility: Striped Reine Marie Henriette.

That's a pretty one, and it has been available for years from several sources in the United States, including Antique Rose Emporium in Texas, but they all call it Madame Driout.

Very pretty! I just got the most recent rose list from Burlington Nursery and she does have it listed but it is currently out of stock. You could always try emailing her and checking if she plans ro offer it in 2022.
