Thread OP

Question.
I just bought a house in the keys and my neighbor has a large gumbo limbo (probably 50ft) and it sits only 7.5 feet from the corner of my house. There's a root that extends directly to the corner of my house.
My question is given it has these large surface roots that extend so far from the actual tree can it mess up the foundation of my house? And if so is there a way i can stop it (like cutting the root)?
Edit: house was built in the 50s and is CBS block. (Not sure if that is of significance lol)
Thanks in advance.

I've read that Dysentery Bark (Bursera simaruba) should not be planted near a driveway or walkway due to surface roots lifting the cement and doing damage. You might want to call an arborist who can take a look and offer advice.

I can say we've cut some pretty big oak tree surface roots and they didn't faze the tree at all. Of course an arborist would know best what to do, you certainly don't want to kill your neighbors beautiful tree. They are native and hurricane strong, and really beautiful trees.
