SO HAPPY to have obtained the new palm seedlings....Pinanga distichs, the 'Stained Glass' palm....Pinanga x adangensis 'Blue Seed' (a rare hybrid that produces blue fruit the color roughly of the Green Jade Vine) and Areca vestiaria 'Red Crownshaft'...the 'poor man's Sealing Wax' palm. Also got a small Cocothrinax crinita, 'Old Man Palm' or Bearded Palm.

My new babies:
Pinanga 'Blue Seed'

Pinanga disticha

Areca vestiaria 'Red Crownshaft' (even the FRONDS have a maroon color!)

These are all pretty fast growing. Can't WAIT to see that blue fruit!

I already know what the Areca will be like because I have had the Yellow Crownshaft for 12+ years...got it from Floribunda back in the day. This palm is a variable palm...it has at least 4 crownshaft colors (red, yellow, maroon and orange) and light and dark variations of those colors. It occurs in the low mountainous rainforest in East Indonesia and Sulawesi and the elevation is also variable. It is felt that the more colorful varieties occur mainly at higher elevation. The seeds are also variable...you can get any color of crownshaft or multiple colors from the same seeds from one palm.

The P. 'Blue Seed' has been around for a while, Floribunda has it sometimes, but has always been rare because there are never many seeds available.

This is my yellow crownshaft Areca. It has the coolest yellow stilt roots ever, and a nice sized sucker coming along... can't wait to see the red version!! Now if I could only find an affordable Chamaedorea tuerckheimei (Potato Chip Palm)

You need to start selling tours of Gina's Jungle, that will provide the income to buy that Potato Chip. Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

I'd give you guys a tour, LOL, but I'd still be embarrassed if things were not perfect

@ScotTi this is my metallica. Its new, I had one years ago which was the victim of the Dark Years. Always wanted another
Thumb of 2020-01-31/Gina1960/a6c54b

I almost lost this too, Pelagadoxa henryana, but it has recovered nicely. It has a new spear, I can't wait. Took some doing to get it back to this point
Thumb of 2020-01-31/Gina1960/7db9e5

I never thought I would see this nice a frond on my Caryota zebrina. Its become a favorite

And I have a couple mystery palms. maybe you want to take a stab? This one, I have put on Palm Talk a couple times in the past when it was smaller, looking for an ID. I had thought maybe it was a Licuala that I had forgotten about, it is HEAVILY armed, as you can see at the base here
Thumb of 2020-01-31/Gina1960/f91f4d

Its looking a little chlorotic on top, Im going to give it a spritz of micro and trace and try to perk it up
Thumb of 2020-01-31/Gina1960/2e31c1

This is what a normal green frond looks like
Thumb of 2020-01-31/Gina1960/566a42

SO the consensus on PalmTalk was that it could be either Pholidocarpus kingianus, or Livistonia saribus. Opinions were about equally split. What say you?

And this one, I have no idea and neither did they. I had though it would be maybe an easy ID because of the bifid split in the frond, maybe that might be a giveaway. But apparently not. It has a short rough trunk and nice stilt roots (ignore the pressure washer)

Gina, I lean towards L. Saribus looking at your photos. My Saribus is so tall now that I can barely remember the look of the thorns. I believe my Saribus is on the way out now as in the last month it has yellowed badly.
Do you notice any yellow streaks running up the leaf stem? I have only seen P. Kingianus in photos and always marveled over the variegation on leaf stems.
Here is a shot of the Saribus on this rainy afternoon.

The second palm is very interesting and I have no inkling of ID.

I will have to look. I have not noticed it. DO you think a Saribus would make it outdoors here? Its obvious I can;t keep it long term as a greenhouse plant ha ha

Gina, I planted my Saribus about 20 years ago. It has seen a freeze as low as 27f and few heavy frosts without any damage during its lifetime in the garden.

Well this one is still in a container, so if it is a Saribus and not the other, I may plant it out at some point!

What do you think of my Marojeyja insignia? Its getting to be a bad boy

Thanks! I guess Saribus it probably is. I love my M. insignis. It was in a bad shape when I took back the greenhouse a little over 2 years ago, it has made a great comeback.

Do you have any thoughts about the 2nd mystery palm?

Gina, Jim, Hawkarica on the Orchid Forum, has a nice collection of rare palms in ground at his home. You might ask him about your mystery palm.

I don't know why I did not think of this before.......
I am still friends with the person who gave me this palm as a gift. I messaged him and asked. He knew immediately! In fact he said 'I can't believe you still have that palm!' (its been 10 years or more LOL)
And the ID is.....Chrysophilia stauracantha! One of the 'root spine' palms.
The 'stilt roots' are actually downward growing spines that keep animals away from the trunk. Google photos....they can look really WILD when large! Like a grass skirt!
