I have done this with garden soil bags , but did not put them on anything just on the ground , then the next year remove the plastic and ''a new planting bed''. The plastic killed all the grass/weeds.

It is a great idea when you don't have time or space for a proper bed.
Can't grow deep rooted crops but there is a lot you can grow.

This is really interesting! Did it take all year for the weeds and grass to die? I want to try this but start seeds in the bag then cut open the plastic a few months later.

If you try to remove the plastic while it is full of your crop you will disrupt the crop roots and they will most likely be stunted or die.
You can however slit through the bottom of the bag and the roots will find a way into the soil
I have only removed the plastic entirely the next planting season.

Going to try this with cucumbers next season.
Have grown sunflowers in peat bales.
The bales are hollowed out and soil filled in Center.
Need to punch holes in bags for drainage.
