Thread OP
Budapest, Hungary
We just sold our old place and bought a new place and will be moving around June 1st. Our garden has dozens of tulips from bulbs we bought in Amsterdam many years ago. They're all in bloom now and look great. We'd like to dig up and replant the bulbs at our new place (it's OK with the new owners) but I know that digging up the bulbs in late May is probably too soon. So, if we do that will we kill them all and if it's OK how to we preserve them until the fall when we can replant them? Thanks.

Welcome to the site!

The best time to transplant is when the foliage is dying back, late spring, early summer.
If that is not possible to wait until they start to die down, dig approx 4-5" from the bulb clump, to avoid damage to the roots, lift the clump and plant in a hole that is the same depth and width and water in.
As Yogi Berra said, “It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future.”
