Few of my friends just mix veggie scraps into the soil directly. I was wondering how we can make compost from our daily veggie scraps.

There are several ways one can make compost, and I have done them practically all:

- mix kitchen scraps in the soil directly as your friends do
- bury them in the garden wherever there is a bare spot
- dump them in my compost bins when I run out of bare soil, especially in the spring when every inch in my garden is occupied.

I don't sweat the stuff; compost happens in nature all the time. Gardening is supposed to be relaxing. I do not worry too much about it and enjoy the experience.

Here, somebody or something might dig the compost up. My brother tried this, I don't know if his method works as well as mine. But I have better flowers on limited land, he has one acre. More land to burry things, I have a small lot. Much smaller.

I usually lay bricks, wood boards, etc. over my buried kitchen scraps to keep critters from digging up the compost.
I live in the city, so my garden is very small. My lot is 34' x 125' house and garage included. Other than the sidewalks, a small patio, and rows of rain barrels, every square inch of land is planted. My garden is stuffed to the gill.
