Just got this plant about 2 weeks ago. I reported it in "Succulent soil mix" and the top has a little bit of gravel I used for my bonsai.
We had rains here in Texas and I took it in every time. It's in full sun watered only a few times. Soil is completely dry as of this morning and I'll water it now. I have a few questions.. any help would be great!

-What could be causing the leaves to go yellow?
-is the soil mixture okay that I used? (Succulent/cactus miracle grow)
-Does it matter that it sits on the ground or should it be elevated?
-How do I get the main part fat and healthy?

yellow leaves could be a couple of different things

1) too much water

2) not enough water

to see which ...pull the plant from the pot ...if the soil media feels dry, the yellowing leaves mean not enough water....
if soil media feels wet, then the yellowing leaves mean too much water

yellow leaves might also mean a "change" in the plants surroundings ...like: changes in the amount of watering or amount of sunlight

I have all my adenium elevated for unrestricted drainage

for a healthy plant with a fat stem called the caudex ...use a fertilizer every time you water ....

Your soil mixture could use more rocks and large grain sand to make it drain faster

It seems to be a finicky plant?
I watered it and let it dry out. It's probably not the best way to check but I just stuck my finger about an inch deep. Felt wet so it's been dry about 4 days. I watered yesterday and I hope it was was thirsty. The leaves fell off this morning. I have the typical plant liquid fert from miracle grow. Would that be good enough? I did also put a few shakes of Osmocote when I repot it.

I love these plants and how beautiful the caused is when it's plump and healthy.

water like a tropical plant in the summer months .....water thoroughly once every 5-7 days ....

fertilizer you are using is okay ....

Does it look like I potted it correctly? I feel I either didn't bury it deep enough or not enough??
I'm now getting more yellow leaves again too. I water it when the soil feels dry, but seems like it's just not happy either way.

depth of plant looks fine ...

I would pull the plant from the pot ...feel the root-ball soil ...if wet, the drainage of the pot is not sufficient.....
if dry - and - the leaves are droopy ...then the plant isn't getting enough water

while the plant is out of the pot ...knock off some soil.... and replace with more rocks, pebbles, pumice, perlite & large grain sand

Thanks deepsouth! Sounds good I just got some perlite and vermiculite and some fresh soil. I'll check it out and see how the root ball's doing.

oh yeah ...skip the vermiculite .... it acts like a sponge & holds too much water .... save it for your other plants

make your adenium potting media "chunky", gritty and fast draining ...
