Oh Toni, don't I know it. Sigh. Today, our high is 40, but the wind is howling again, and the wind chill is 32. I can handle working outside in 32 degrees, but not with that wind.
My tomato and pepper plants are still sitting in the living room. I went through 3 sets of them last year, and the last set died in the heat wave. Maybe this year.....
I do have some wall of waters, and cozy coats. the wind is too strong for them, I think. My iron chairs and wooden rockers have scooted way across the yard. AND...to make it all worse, I need to MOW!
We may get rain today, which is good, but I only have Friday to work in the yard, but I don't like to compact soggy ground. Maybe I can get all my holes dug today before the rain starts. Or I can just wait until next week, and spend some time organizing my seeds.
I bought the coolest bunch of seeds yesterday to put in the blue garden.
They are all from Baker Creek.
I got:
Poppy Purple Peony (it's a poppy, not a peony, haha)
Sweet Pea Black Knight
Dianthus Black and White Minstrels
Amaranth Elephant Head
Zinnia Lilac Emperor Cactus Flowered
Plants:
a purple sweet pepper
Purple Explosion veronica
Mini Blue Lavender
French Lavender
Curling Waves Salvia
Winky Dbl Red and White columbine (I passed on the black and white--I may go back)
Alpine Blue columbine
Homestead purple verbena (mine finally found it's low temp limit, after 5 years)
Victoria Blue salvia (some of mine are coming back!)

Right now that bed is a sea of blue hyacinths and white iberis. Later, I will have blue and black iris blooming, then hopefully the roses.
Sometimes I line the edges with either white vinca or white profusion zinnias.
I'm trying to keep it to cool colors, since that area does get late afternoon shade, so end up relaxing there at the end of the day.

ooh, you have GOT to take pictures! What's an iberis? never heard of that. My hyacinths are almost in bloom. They're so short.. only 2-4" tall this year. I have 4 blues, 3 pinks, & 2 white(?) showing right now. We were supposed to get snow last night, but didn't happen. Planted some seeds yesterday.. dunno if any will grow as I bought these like 5 years ago. *Blush* *Blush* *Blush* Red Scarlet Runner beans.

Oh, Candytuft. Can't grow that.. tried 3 different times, needs way more moisture than I'm willing to give it.

Tomorrow's the "Night of Wine & Roses" at our local nursery (Tagawa Gardens) (http://www.calendarwiz.com/cal...) Not sure if they have anything this year. Thinking about maybe getting a WWII Memorial because I don't have one (Rose (Rosa 'World War II Memorial Rose')).. especially if they look like this one:

I've seen the WW2 Memorial blooming & it's a beauty! I love my climbing Angel Face & its scent is quite nice. My Ebb Tide is pinker than purple! Purple's my color & if I didn't resist every flower in this little garden would be purple!

Nice photo, Julie. Wish I could grow a good Angel Face. I'll bet you can smell that rose from up on the deck!
Thumbs up

I just got a 'Blue For You'...from a buy at cubits. I currently do not have any blue-ish roses, though I have had 'Angel Face' in the past, and I love the fragrance. I will let you know if this blooms as it is small.
