Hello everyone. One of my first posts. Started a passion flower in a container this year for the first time. Purchased locally, but a rare find here in Ontario Canada. Budded today for the first time. I had no idea what to expect (literally, didn't google them, just purchased on a whim). What beauty!

I'll get a photo of the plant in the simple container...

Trying to get it to wrap around the light pole. Will bring it in over winter and hopefully get it to last a few seasons. Probably need to transplant at end of season into a larger container pot.

Your first bloom pic is a stunner! I've never overwintered one but I seem to recall a member of my garden club saying it wasn't difficult. Good luck and hope your neighbours enjoy the blooms on the light pole as well!

Don't know about Ontario utility regulations, but here in the States, the electric company will rip off anything vine-like you grow onto a telephone pole the first time they see it or have to climb the pole to service it. They are ruthless here in Texas and don't even warn you. You just go out one day and the plant is gone. You might want to call and ask if that is their practice locally.

On the up side, you can move your pot to some other corner of your yard and provide an artificial tower or trellis to train it on. My passion flowers grow wild along our chain-link fence at our rural cabin property. It dies back to the ground in winter and comes back up in the spring with all new vines and blooms. I do nothing to it but enjoy the blossoms. Mother Nature waters and nurtures it exclusively. Smiling

They are beautiful, and surprisingly they're not hard to over winter indoors... I kept one alive in the same pot for 5 years in S. NY . It did loose a lot of leaves when I brought it in for winter, so I started cutting it back hard when it came inside but this was one tropical that was really Ready to ramp up in late spring. A lot of blooming tropicals need a ton of time in hot weather to start reblooming, but This plant was raring to go much earlier than tender hibiscus and other blooming tropical

one quick thing, don't repot when you take it in. winter is night time, it's gonna slow down in shorter days, weaker sun, if you want to repot wait for tropical type weather in late spring early summer when the plants growth ramps up. if you're going to bring it in for the winter, cut it back hard.. to like 8-20" depending on its age. , if you leave it huge, it will just dry out and you'll watch the branches die back anyway and youll just have a mess to clean up in the house
