Is it possible to search the Daylily Plants Database by hybridizer? I am trying to find the correct name for this plant, which is for sale online: http://hornbakergardens.com/Ma...
According to the database, this is Magic Dawn:
Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Magic Dawn')
Both the incorrectly named daylily and the correct one are by the same hybridizer, Hall, so I'm hoping that if I can narrow the search to just Hall's I might solve the mystery. Of course, this is all predicated on what may be a mistaken presumption that only the name is incorrect.
I contacted Hornbaker Gardens to point out the error and Richard Hornbaker responded that they would remove the plant from their catalog. However, it's such a nice looking daylily that maybe if I can get the correct name they might decide to keep it. Thanks.

Nancy did you see the comments under Magic Dawn when you looked it up on here? Scooby said that "Howdy" was being sold as "magic dawn" and there could be others. The one you are interested in doesn't look like Howdy but I agree it is very pretty, must be one of the "others"

There have been discussions on daylily forums over the years as to what the bicolor sold as "Magic Dawn" might really be, some suggestions have been 'Howdy' or 'Miss Jessie' and probably others sold under that name, maybe either because of a label mix up years ago or because it is unregistered and people didn't understand the importance of not using an already registered name. So it isn't necessarily actually by the same hybridizer. The real 'Magic Dawn' is the pink one. According to the AHS database Hall only registered three bicolors, 'Salutation', 'Three Cheers' and 'Town Crier'. Only one has a picture.

Thanks for the responses! I couldn't find that advanced search feature and I'm delighted to see that it does exist. Now I'll be able to see what DF Hall might have that looks like the faux Magic Dawn, or if the online store's description is totally off base. Here is part of what R. Hornbaker wrote to me yesterday about his daylily: "I believe we bought that from Walters Gardens three decades ago. It was one of the first daylilies we ever bought."

BTW, although I haven't been to Hornbaker's, in Princeton IL, in many, many years, I may take a drive there in the next few days because they are only about 1 1l2 hours from me. They are well known throughout the Chicago area for their gorgeous hostas and daylilies and I was impressed with the owner's email about Magic Dawn.
