Hi! I am unsure what the bug is and what's happening with my rose bush. They were healthy and now I don't think they are now. Please help

Hello, and welcome to the forum. The insect is a common stink bug. They secrete an awful smelling liquid when threatened (or squished), but have nothing to do with the leaf damage of your roses. He's just wandering through.

I suspect the leaf damage is fungal in nature, as it's affecting the leaves and their stems, but the younger canes look green and healthy. Apply a fungicide spray to prevent further spread and leaf drop. Most fungicides are preventive in nature (meaning they will help prevent the spread to healthy leaves), but they do not stop the infection in leaves and stems that are already infected. You'll need to spray every couple of weeks, depending on the product's label instructions.

Actually, I think that might be a squash bug. Probably not a threat to your roses, but if you've got cucurbits in your veggie garden (squash, pumpkins, cucumbers, etc) you might want to watch for clusters of eggs on the undersides of the leaves.

Zoe's right; I stand corrected. It's a squash bug.

You've had a tremendous amount of rain there in FL, yes? If your weather ever dries out, the fungal problems may really not be as bad.

OR, depending upon the susceptibility of the rose, it may be awful.

Personally, if a rose has really severe fungal problems, it doesn't stay here. I have dogs. I don't spray.
