So glad to have found this forum. I like the newer Daylilies but the older Daylilies let us know how versitle and beautiful the flower is and can be. I put in a Stout medal bed last fall, can hardly wait for it to start blooming. Plus purchased several Stout Daylilies Theron, 1934, Circe 1937. Grow a wide range I have some for every decade not including the Stout Medal bed. Also have Magic Dawn,which is a bicolor. Guess I will have to redo to Howdy.

This is a great forum topic - it's been a while since I really thought about my oldest cultivars. I have a few species plants, but I do not have good photos of them yet. They were added just the past couple of years.
I'd like to share a few of my oldies.

Nice oldies! I believe I have Sammy Russell, but since I got it in a flower swap about 8 years ago, it is a NOID for me.

I can trace my daylily compulsion back to the first time I saw Queen's Cape; I had always assumed they only came in shades of red, orange, and yellow. It was quite an epiphany! Although it's an older variety, it has a place of honor in the bed.

Keith, that is so beautiful! Before I got hooked, I thought there were only ditchlilies, which were very abundant in my yard!

Ladysmith94!! I have the first 4 on your list, and love them! I've been using Hyperion for hybridizing, and it has been great at passing along it's scent to it's offspring. I would keep it even if it didn't do that. I love how simple it is, and it's always a good bloomer for me.

That's the thing about the older daylilies - they are so simple, they are gorgeous in their own right. ~Jan

My oldest is Ophir from 1924, its one of the old yellows.

My oldest is Coppersmith from 1955, and it just started to bloom last weekend, with lots of new scapes coming!

I see many of you have Hyperion and I have one called Hyperion Elite. Not sure about dates on others of my older daylilies.

Many oldies in the garden, myself included, but the oldest daylily I own is 'Arla', Saxton 1949. I searched for it for years and only via the generosity of one upstate collector do I have it. My childhood nickname was Arla, hence the quest.
