So glad to have found this forum. I like the newer Daylilies but the older Daylilies let us know how versitle and beautiful the flower is and can be. I Smiling put in a Stout medal bed last fall, can hardly wait for it to start blooming. Plus purchased several Stout Daylilies Theron, 1934, Circe 1937. Grow a wide range I have some for every decade not including the Stout Medal bed. Also have Magic Dawn, which is a bicolor. Guess I will have to redo to Howdy.

This is a great forum topic - it's been a while since I really thought about my oldest cultivars. I have a few species plants, but I do not have good photos of them yet. They were added just the past couple of years.
I'd like to share a few of my oldies.

Hesperus - Sass, 1940

Nice oldies! I believe I have Sammy Russell, but since I got it in a flower swap about 8 years ago, it is a NOID for me.

I can trace my daylily compulsion back to the first time I saw Queen's Cape; I had always assumed they only came in shades of red, orange, and yellow. It was quite an epiphany! Although it's an older variety, it has a place of honor in the bed.

Keith, that is so beautiful! Before I got hooked, I thought there were only ditchlilies, which were very abundant in my yard!

Welcome! Ladysmith94!! I have the first 4 on your list, and love them! I've been using Hyperion for hybridizing, and it has been great at passing along it's scent to it's offspring. I would keep it even if it didn't do that. I love how simple it is, and it's always a good bloomer for me.

I see many of you have Hyperion and I have one called Hyperion Elite. Not sure about dates on others of my older daylilies.

Many oldies in the garden, myself included, but the oldest daylily I own is 'Arla', Saxton 1949. I searched for it for years and only via the generosity of one upstate collector do I have it. My childhood nickname was Arla, hence the quest.
