If you’ve ever seen a clematis that is one big mountain of tangled up stems, it’s almost enough to scare you away from growing them. But let’s take a look at why, when, and how these remarkable vines should be pruned and you’ll find it’s not as difficult as it seems.

I still do not know WHEN you should prune or cut your Clematis
Is it in September or wait till after a winter? when I am sure the winter will kill some of its branches! Also I do not know what kind of Clematis I have , It was here when we moved into this place, but it is in a very small area where there is hardly any good soil, I like to refresh the soil also and fertalize it but what is a good fertalizer for Clematis The colour of the Clematis is white with a bit os purpley pink edge

This is the second year the clematis is blooming. It has lots of buds now in March. The vines aren't long and it tends to sprawl on the ground. I've tied up a few of the vines but it doesn't seem to be growing upward much. I have a trellis and put string on the trellis to make it easier for it to attach. It has attached some. What can I do to promote more upward growth?

I always leave mine until the spring and then cut them right down. I have always had a full, beautiful production.
