Sirs, Ma'am: I have starter growing Hybrid Tea roses. I planted three going on three months ago and they are doing excellent. Today I received my last two for this year. They are live root (?) Teas in pots, not bare root. Is it safe to plant them at this time? I live in Reisterstown, Maryland 21136. Thank you. John Nichols

Yes, you can plant potted roses in the fall. Do it as soon as possible. Do not disturb the root ball in the pot. Just dig your holes deep so that the bud union is several inches below the ground level. Slip the root ball out of the pot and plant it as is. The less you disturb the growing roots the better. Keep it well watered until the ground freezes. You can amend the holes with organics but I would not use any fertilizer at this time of year. Wait until spring to give them fertilizer.
