I've never dug up whole plants to over winter, but I have started cuttings from them in fall. They're really easy.

I first started with the Scenteds about 38 years ago from an elderly man in Iowa who kept hundreds in his windows and beneath grow lights....first time I'd ever seen them.

Hmm, pretty sure that was the name. They are a deep red color and just bloomed their heads off. At 5.99 ea I had hoped to find some seeds.

If you saved them ----you could do cuttings of them?
Were the petals arranged differently?

hmm, I should have tried that. I bet if I brought them in they would have made it. One older lady dug hers up and let them go dormant for the winter. I never have tried that.

I am curious as to them being called Viola?
Do you think it was the colour? or the shape of the flowers giving them that name?

I plan on buying them again if HD has them. Next yr I will take cutting or try to save a couple.

I think because the bloom so well. They were not a bright red like most.

Now in 2014:
I am still looking for a good seed source for scented pelargoniums.
Has anyone come across such a thing?
There is a site which does the plants in Nebraska, but they do not do seeds?
Canadian Border regulations say nix to plants, but seed is okay.

Is there a particular scent you're looking for?

I had seen those also.
Both Rose of Attar only which I have.
There seems to be so many types-but I guess they are mainly propagated by cuttings?

That's possible Shrug!

You could try calling a favorite seed company or two and ask them whether they're propagated by seeds or vegetative means. Shrug!

Looks as if I'll have to purchase plants or plugs.
They are sold in Canada by Richters herbs.

I have started coconut and pineapple scented ones from seed but they haven't bloomed yet so I can't offer you any. I have 3 others also that have not bloomed for me yet can't remember one of them but one is the Rose of Attar and one is lemon the third one I don't remember will have to look it up.

I got my coconut and pineapple seeds from someone on here last year. I'll see if I can find the post where she offered them so you can contact her.

hahaha....When I saw your name, Mindy, I thought that I'd sent seeds to you. Caroline, when you posted before looking for seeds, we were getting ready to sell our property and everything was packed up in boxes and I didn't know where my seeds were. So......we've sold and moved and are in a rental house in far Northern California and looking for a place to buy.....many, many things still in boxes and in storage. I know the seeds are in a box here in the house somewhere as I've come across them once already in going through boxes. When you posted this latest request, I looked through some of the boxes and had no luck, but they may be in a stack of boxes in the living room...lol...will check there today. I would have sent seeds of apple scented and maybe coconut or nutmeg to Mindy as those were what I had on hand at the time. I've grown the scenteds for many years and never bothered with saving seed, but the apple and coconut self-sow so readily that I'd started saving seed of those. I'm taking more things to St. Vincent's today and need to go trhough more boxes and with luck, will find that I still have seeds of those.
I could be wrong...
and.....
