This is just on one bud on one rose bushbut I just noticed today n it's the weirdest thing I've never saw before. What is this and what do I do? Side note idk if this related but on just one bud on another rose bush there is like ants eating the outside of a new bud so red is already showing through.

Aphids. Most people just blast them with a strong stream of water.

If you agree that they are aphids, I would try the hard spray from the hose too. You may need to do this a few times if the spray is not hard enough and the pests fall and climb up again. And of course, you can always take a sample to a local nursery (use a clear, sealed plastic envelope).

Aphids. Aphids come in many colors, shapes and sizes depending on where you are located. Hosing works but you need to be fearless about using that HARD stream. I just take two fingers and wipe them off carefully. If your squeamish use a Kleenex. The ants are not the ones eating the sepals the aphids are. The ants actually herd the aphids so they can collect their excretions which is called honey due. Getting rid of the aphids will get rid of the ants too.

Hi Odaharry. with what everyone said about aphids. Your photo of the white blobs is blurry, but I once had some mutantly massive aphids on a Cleveland sage. I even posted a question on NGA because they were so bizarre. Maybe a NM thing. Do they look like this?

No my blueberry bushes all died no matter what I did. Idk if they were aphids, they didn't seem alive. Like I said they were tiny white balls. They didn't move when I picked some up. I just wiped em all off by hand. They were only on that one bud, didn't need to use a hose or anything. No clue what they were unless aphids don't move and always stay in a ball. Was they exact same for days with no changes in them or the bud.

Ah well, another garden mystery, but good to know they didn't become destructive.

Sorry to hear about the blueberries, but not surprised. Even if they'd been healthy to begin with, they would have had trouble surviving that long, brutal stretch of heat we had this summer. 🔥
