Today in attempting to tie down some crazy growth on Mme. Alfred Carriere which is pillar-grown, I accidently snapped off three 4 ' canes of new growth. Can they be used to successfully propagate? Do they need to be cut in 12" segments (keeping them pencil-size), three leaf buds for rooting (leaves removed and stem placed in rooting medium), two (above) for future blooms (or is it the other way around?). In the distant past I successfully propagated a hybrid tea (placed the cutting in a pot with some kind of rooting medium, covered it with a clear plastic bag that I blew up and sealed shut with rubber band, and sat it under a bush in the shade until new growth appeared from the leaf nodes)., Would that possibly work with these? Any other advice? It is still warm outside, 70's-80's here, high 50's/60's at night.
