This year is the first year my blueberry plant has flowered and within weeks after doing that has turned red then brown and died back and started sprouting new growth.
Is this normal?

Sorry no one has an answer for your question. I see you have it in a container. I had a few in large containers years ago. They malingered for a while before passing on before I could decide where to plant them.

I would suspect your issue is related to the soil. They need an acidic soil. They should not have dropped their leaves right after blooming.

Good luck, perhaps someone will come along with more knowledge.

Question #1: did the dieback happen during or shortly after a warm spell?
Question #2: do the dead canes merely dry off or do they get covered with a slight grey mold?

From the sound of it sounds either you are either dealing with stem blight or (more likely) your plant got a hot weather shock, but more data is needed.

Ooh I might test their soil, I have a pH test kit that I've never used.

El Pollo, I live in Australia so it is halfway through spring but I wouldn't say its been unseasonably warm, could it have been the seasonal transition? I'll check tomorrow but I don't believe I've seen any grey mould.
