Marilyn, definately try the cuttings and if you need to next spring try Bluestone Perennials, they have a ton of Salvia but they are out of the kind you mentioned. It will be ok!. Group hug . By spring we will find some, but probably your cutting will root and you will not need to go shopping. Green Grin! Thumbs up

Thanks! Group hug Group hug Group hug Thumbs up

I have a sister who lives in Boulder, CO and she brought back on the airplane, when she came for Easter to see the family, four 2" size potted plants that HCG sells, that she found for me on a garden shopping trip in Denver. Group hug She only went on that shopping trip for me. Lovey dubby

I gave her a long list of plants I wanted, to make it easier and quicker for her. She offered to do this after I told her that she was so lucky to be living in CO with all 'those' type of plants that HCG sells (that would be in garden centers). She's told me that she has ordered from HCG for years, but not lately. She's 8 and half years older than me and I just turned 57.

I didn't even know HCG existed until I read an article on them in a Fine Gardening magazine (think it was a Summer or Fall 2004 issue). The article was about their Agastaches (xericscaping also, I think). I placed my first of many orders (over the years thru this year) with them in Spring 2005 and started xericscaping in my garden that year.

HCG was my very favorite mail order place and always the first place I thought of when I wanted/needed plants and organic gardening supplies.

They were the best and top notch! I feel like I'm missing part of my family now, since they closed.

I told DH that maybe Ann (sister in CO), will bring back a few more plants for me each time she flies back. I emailed her a few nights ago about the closing, but she hasn't emailed back yet.

This Spring, I offered to pay her for the plants, but she wouldn't take it, so I had already gotten 5 for the price of 4 small (3" size pots) Agastache 'Raspberry Summer' potted plants from Deer-resistant Landscape Nursery in the Spring before she came and she would only take two back.

I wished I had known about HCG sooner. I hadn't realized that they had in business for 19 years.

It won't be the same for me each year now without them. Sad

<ok, I'm off my soapbox, for now, at least. Sorry so long of a posting>

Okay, I'm totally confused. I just went to the highcountrygardens.com and everything is just as it normally is ....??? I don't get it - even your link goes to the normal site, with everything still intact.

What da heck? Confused Confused Confused

That's very sad about HCG closing.

Marilyn, I got my 'Scarlet Spires' from Rich Dufresne. They root easily in potting mix too...really easy!

Thanks Susan, I didn't know how to transfer that over to ATP.

They already closed the two retail stores too.

I tip my hat to you.

Wow, I did not know they had a retail store, there were no clues that they were having problems? I see they are having an auction to sell the farm equipment.

Green Grin! / Danita , do you know where the website is??

Yippee!! Hurray! Hurray!

I found out they are hybrid and do not come true from seed. I guess the cutting would be the way to go if I had one, but I don't and if you are not going to buy that last one, then I might as well get it myself. Green Grin! Thumbs up

That's ok, Kermit, the owner will grow more and I can get my three (or four) for next year. Thumbs up

The Hummers sure loved that Salvia! Lovey dubby Hurray!

I missed out, they only had the one left. I got side tracked, you know how that goes. I will get one or two in the spring, seems like the Scarlet Spires is the best one for attracting hummers. Plus it's beautiful, love that scarlet red color. Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

Probably they just haven't updated for spring sales? Looks like they only have 6 feedback, but all good. Another new place to try. Geeze.
