Thanks!
I have a sister who lives in Boulder, CO and she brought back on the airplane, when she came for Easter to see the family, four 2" size potted plants that HCG sells, that she found for me on a garden shopping trip in Denver.
She only went on that shopping trip for me.
I gave her a long list of plants I wanted, to make it easier and quicker for her. She offered to do this after I told her that she was so lucky to be living in CO with all 'those' type of plants that HCG sells (that would be in garden centers). She's told me that she has ordered from HCG for years, but not lately. She's 8 and half years older than me and I just turned 57.
I didn't even know HCG existed until I read an article on them in a Fine Gardening magazine (think it was a Summer or Fall 2004 issue). The article was about their Agastaches (xericscaping also, I think). I placed my first of many orders (over the years thru this year) with them in Spring 2005 and started xericscaping in my garden that year.
HCG was my very favorite mail order place and always the first place I thought of when I wanted/needed plants and organic gardening supplies.
They were the best and top notch! I feel like I'm missing part of my family now, since they closed.
I told DH that maybe Ann (sister in CO), will bring back a few more plants for me each time she flies back. I emailed her a few nights ago about the closing, but she hasn't emailed back yet.
This Spring, I offered to pay her for the plants, but she wouldn't take it, so I had already gotten 5 for the price of 4 small (3" size pots) Agastache 'Raspberry Summer' potted plants from Deer-resistant Landscape Nursery in the Spring before she came and she would only take two back.
I wished I had known about HCG sooner. I hadn't realized that they had in business for 19 years.
It won't be the same for me each year now without them.
<ok, I'm off my soapbox, for now, at least. Sorry so long of a posting>
