I have had my roses for about 2 years and they were growing and blooming amazing. They still give me beautiful flowers but two of them are turning yellow in the center. They are planted in containers I water them every 4 to 5 days and use a fish fertilizer for roses every 2 to 3 weeks. I know they have good drainage because every time I water them the excess water flows freely from the holes at the bottom of the container. I live in the Caribbean where it is summer all year. They get the morning sun from 8am to 12pm and them from 4pm to 6pm. What can I do to fix this?

I don't think you have a problem here. Leaves get old and in your climate, with a year round growing season, they can wear out sooner than most. When this happens the plant will stop feeding whatever leaves are not producing enough food to earn their keep. Often those are the ones on the inside and bottom of the plant because they are the most shaded and don't get enough sun to do photosynthesis efficiently. In this way the plant can conserve its resources for producing new growth and blooms.

Also, Nancy -- How large are your containers? Roses need room for their roots.

That's a pretty small pot. As the rose grows you will need to pot it up to a larger one. Do you know what the names of the roses are?

I would be concerned that when you water, the water flows freely from the pot. That shouldn't happen with potted plants. Potted roses sometimes have their soil contract and leave air spaces, which means that they aren't actually getting the water you apply. Water that flows freely from the bottom as you are watering is a big indication of this. Might be time to pull the rose up and see what the root ball and soil look like. I grow >150 roses in 15 gallon pots, and when I see this happen, I know I need to pull them up and re-pot. Generally, they have also showed symptoms of lack of water around the same time.

Two beauties! Those are both good sized shrub roses. They're going to need bigger pots. I'd go 20 gallons. When you water does the water just go straight through immediately or does it take a while before it drains out the bottom? If it just seems to go right through in seconds then they are probably already root bound and need bigger pots right away.

They take a little bit. But I will change the pots to bigger ones. Thank you!!
