Thread OP

Does this look like new growth or rose rosette disease?

Is it wrong to hope its sick so I'm forced to dig up this boring rose? I think it's a knockout.

Welcome to NGA, Maurennpm. Yes, it does appear to be RRD. Extract the plant into dispose of it in a plastic trash bag. Monitor others near by more often than before and be ready to extract those others too if you notice that type of unusual growth. More info:

Yes, what Luis said. Also, it is never wrong to dig up any rose you are not happy with whether it is ill or not. Life is short, roses are time consuming hard work and can be expensive. Do not waste all that on any rose you do not love! And don't feel guilty about it!

Luis can I find out where you bought this rose? Name and rootstock ?
Tell me is it true that pruners and shovels need to be wiped with alcohol after contact with such a plant?

Maureenpm can answer where it was purchased/obtained. Her location/USDA Zone information is currently not automatically displaying though.

When cutting roses, it's a good idea to disinfect pruners or scissors with rubbing alcohol or a 10% bleach solution to avoid the possibility of transmitting the virus.

If you don't like it, you don't need another reason to dig it up.
