For almost 10 years I've been using the "Loco" spelling, which is also the way the name is spelled on HMF.com.

https://www.helpmefind.com/gar...

I've now changed the spelling to 'Koko Loko' in our database because a new forum member has pointed out that the "Loko" spelling is used by most retailers, including Weeks, and this is a Weeks rose.

https://www.weeksroses.com/pro...

I don't remember this kind of controversy over any other trademarked rose name.

Interesting controversy. I wonder what discussions they had a Weeks
before they decided on this name. Since this is the Rose world, my guess is
that the commercial folks will decide what is "correct". Sad

Sorry but the AEN is Koko Loco. And one of the patent names is 'WEKSTOHOCO'. I don't see anywhere, and have never seen anywhere, the use of the "KO" instead. That's good enough for me. But the only one who has the final say would be Christian Bédard. It's his rose.

Well unless Weeks' own website has multiple misspellings, the trademarked name is spelled with a "k" and not a "c".

Also, the American Rose Society's profile of Christian Bédard lists it as "Loko" at this link:

When a rose is registered and/or patented it's the breeder's decision on the name. Weeks can call it what ever they want but the breeder is the final authority. So if it should be Koko Loko then he needs to let the AEN know that. Until such time if you want to show it anywhere you need to use Koko Loco.

Since Christian is the Director of Research for Week's Roses and also the breeder, I presume it is correct with a "k", no?

Yes, but then he needs to get the AEN changed or people will get disqualified for showing it with the "k" spelling.

It's too late and dark for me to go out and find the tag on mine, but in my database, I have it as Koko Loco, which is what I've always called it. I'll check tomorrow morning.

The Weeks tag on mine says KOKO LOKO (cv.WEKbijou) Pat.#23269. I purchased mine bare root in January 2018 from a local nursery.

Mine has a hand written tag spelled with a C...also purchased locally but not with that round metal tag that comes from a grower.
I never paid any attention to the spelling until now ! lol

I don't think they use the metal tags any longer... nowadays, bare roots come with a long plastic tag on them that wraps around a cane. I always try to keep it as long as I can, and stab my hand-written tag through the slit. LOL, my hand-written tag says "Koko Loco".

Well, to get the definitive and final word on this, I sent an email to Christian, who is both the breeder of the rose, and the Director of Research for Weeks Roses. I explained that the AEN was reportedly 'Koko Loco' with a "c," but that the name on Week's website was 'Koko Loko' with a "k," and that we would like to know which is correct. He replied that the correct spelling is 'Koko Loko'.

Perhaps there is a typo in the published AEN if it appears with a "c" there; or perhaps there is a typo on sites that reference the AEN, such as HMF.
