Just noticed the email from The Peony Shop Holland saying they're open for orders for the 2021 season. Sure hope next year's US orders don't get lost in shipping like this year's....ordered several Itohs and a few replacement herbaceous.

I jumped in, too. They have some great prices.

Make sure you choose the combined Karen Gesa shipping options if you order.

Yes, I made that mistake last year, did it correctly this year! Huge difference in shipping price and probably safer having them all come in together.

Some of the older Itohs were less than $20 and the roots always perform well.

I ordered 5 Itohs, there was Danse du Feu and Soleil D'Ambre, so I ordered both. Now I have to figure how to pay it using my credit card, I quickly glanced that you can pay with PayPal or MasterCard. But I will read more later, right now I'm not awake yet.

Success, yay! I was able to pay the deposit using my credit card. I didn't have to create a PayPal account even.

I need $6 to add to my order to be able to finish it. I asked a friend if she wants something.

Very good selection, SoCal!

I did order Danse du Fue again this year. Now to wait almost a year to get them.

Anya, I hope you figure something out before something in your order sells out!

Thanks LG, I think I got the last Sonoma Welcome. Good timing.
I avoided herbaceous peonies because I just got 16 from Song Sparrow. But I finally had time to go through the catalog slowly, just for pure pleasure of looking at each peony slowly, I'm glad I didn't order one yellow peony for close to $5000. I wonder who would order such thing, what so special about it.

Swenson's offered a supposedly unavailable Saunder's peony for $1000 at the beginning of this season, I never looked to see if they sold out. Lots of swirl that it wasn't the correct variety, I'm certainly not expert enough to know or an avid enough collector to go for it. Now several over $1000 new or newer releases....it's harder for individuals in Europe to import from the US now so the growers there who have some of the newest US releases can name their price. It'll be interesting to see if they sell out.

Liz, Red Lacquer was sold in summer as far as I remember, as well as many other expensive varieties. In Peony Shop catalog I thought it was a mistake for those 3 peonies which were way more than $1000, probably it was not a mistake Confused This year I want only Danse Du Feu and Lorelei, the same as last year, I decided to skip Caroline Constabel this time because it looks it is sensitive to soil to produce good flowers and I don't want to fill its hole with a special soil mixture. I don't know but I did not like pictures of it from a few people who had it.
Edited: I put Pietertje Vriend Wagenaar in the basket just because it is crazy cheap and still a very nice peony Smiling

How does it work - you place an order through the Peony Shop, the tubers are sent to Karen Gesa and she then mails the tubers to each individual that ordered through that shipping option?

Yes, JP, that's how it works. Make sure you pick for 2021. It said 2022, and I had to pick 2021 from the drop down.

I try to order peonies from The Peony Shop that aren't available in the USA, or are priced such that you save so much on them that it's worth the extra fees.

Agree with LG. Doing the group shipment saves a ton but it still isn't cheap. Add 10% on to your root price for customs then add another $5-6 each for packing and shipping, if it's still a deal go for it.

I can tell, I am really done for the season, but I would like to plan for next year. What peonies does The Peony Shop have that are hard to get in the US?

Danse du Feu or Soleil D'Ambre for Itoh peonies, quite a few unusual herbaceous peonies, but I stay away from them, I can get them from the US vendors.

As an aside I love how their peonies are named.
Julian The Apostate, Diocletian, Maximinus Daia, Sol Invictus... makes me want to buy them just to show off how much of loser I am. Rolling on the floor laughing

Haha!

Is there a doctor in the house?

- No, but there are several out in the garden along with a bunch of Monsignors.
