Discussing colors in different growing conditions is very interesting. I thought I would show some photos of a few from the same time of year, but different growing conditions, in different parts of the world.
in drought conditions, in the ground/raised bed, Pacific Northwest, USA
large nursery pot, probably more water provided, Bavaria, Germany
Both show great color, different form and size to rosettes because one is water deprived.
This particular introduction shows all the attributes we would look for in a high quality sempervivum. If you check out the datbase entry for this one, you will see that it has months of great color. I'll have to see about getting some winter and spring photos.

Just be careful were you get these "courtesy of", some of these nurseries can have some low quality photos if you know what I mean.

Lynn,
Your garden conditions in the warmer months put just the right amount of stress on the semps to bring out their most vivid colors.
'Big Six-O' isn't an easy cultivar to come by and I still have yet to acquire it, so unfortunately I don't have images of that one to contribute. It really looks beautiful in those pictures though.

I love Big Six-O!

Here's a shot of mine from early May. Is it spring yet? Glare

Hang in there Jesse, spring is just around the corner. At least for the PNW. Is your year round weather fairly mioderate?

We get the full range of all 4 seasons here, Lynn. Average highs this time of year is around 35 degrees with average lows around 20 degrees. January will get colder still. In July average highs are in the mid 80s. It doesn't usually warm up consistently here until end of April, early May.

I dunno if our winters are long or not, haven't experienced a full one yet. But, from everything I've read in the MidWest forum they're pretty long winters.
