This is pretty Anthony. Do you have another picture you can post that shows the whole stigma--you're getting too close. Same with that purple seedling from Joe. I really, really would like to see another shot of that 'yellow' pollen. That's one seedling I'd keep around.

If I snap pictures for my documentation (not necessarily for beauty), sometimes I will take multiple pics of the same flower from the same perspective, but at different focal lengths. Some focus on the petals, and others on the closer stigma and anthers.

When the camera doesn't focus the way I want (because I use a simple point and shoot camera, too), sometimes I will use and a beige colored paper to focus on first:
1) Hold the paper near the photo subject at the distance you want focused.
2) Depress and hold the camera's button halfway to focus. (Do not snap the picture, yet.)
3) Remove the paper, and point the camera as desired, making sure not to change the distance from the camera to the subject.
4) Finish depressing the button to snap the photo.

You may find that the brightness is somewhat off, one way or the other. You can use darker or lighter color paper to compensate, or change the esposure (brightness) level in the camera. Anthony, this is how you can do it:

Regarding the camera, of course, I have an ulterior motive: better picture to post! Thumbs up

And thanks for showing something other than the flower. The Lankon in the data base with detail of the foliage as well as the buds is especially helpful.

So I imagine the L. candidum began germinating underground about 5 days earlier than when the pic was taken.
What was the approximate temperature (high/low) back then?
And when did you actually plant them?

Anthony, unstick one flower to see if opens without the crabbing appearance. I had a couple stick last summer. The one in your last picture.

Candidum seeds sown Dec 6 Confused about........Della recieved a few and sowed 2-3 days later....Temp in my garage is about 18'- but I placed them in the back of the truck on a few days , where humid temps would be 32'-38.'...I stood in there yesterday to test it..I lasted 7 minutes...Lorn, I had done exactly as you said-earlier!, with no horrid effects...Today I do the "CUT" and start selecting my fridging stems and flowers-tedious but necessary Blinking Blinking Blinking

Seeing a batch of babies hairpin their way into the world is almost as exciting as seeing first flowers open. But I'm a hopeless recorder of weather - I can't imagine having the mental space or consistency to keep records! My L.candidum went in on the 7th Dec, and the first emerged yesterday - 31st Dec.

Hehe... I have nothing but single flowers left to take to Burnie this weekend. Not much at all, but every flower helps create a filled hall and happy patrons. You're brave cutting whole stems, Anthony - I kind of get the wobbles when I even think about cutting a stem... I swear I can hear the bulb screaming! Hilarious!

On a different note... I've been wondering about the copyright lines most everyone seems to have across their uploaded images. Is this an automatic option available somewhere when uploading an image to the site? Or did everyone adopt the same shared template back in time and independently apply it (I'm wondering how that would work? Confused )? Maybe Anthony and I - being Australian - lack a kind of entrepreneurial merchant 'rights awareness' that is normal to US culture? nodding Anyway - what is the system in place and how does it work?

Della, click on your profile at the top of the page, then click on "Change your site preferences". A list of "Preferences" comes up, one of them being "Add a watermark to uploaded photos?" The drop down menu will give you choices to use for a watermark which will be added to all photos you upload to the site.

Take a look at the other preferences offered and adjust to suit your taste. Don't forget to click on "Save your changes" when you are done making your choices.

It is normal for the smaller version ("thumbnail") to appear cut off or cropped; the software here automatically does that. The large version will look like the photo you uploaded.

Mine was in and out of the garage window, never in full sun, but as I say, placed in the back canopy of the truck for 3 days-daylight hours only..Sorry if its confusing, but Im experimenting with many seeds here, and It seems to be working...If only I had another 2 of me here during Nov/ DEC/JAN,.things might not get out of hand as much,.,.Good weather ,very up 'n 'down, but its about to get extreme.,.,.I reckon, you'll see a beached walrus, in a double ringed, blow up pool here ,Friday,..,35 is deadly hot!!!
