I purchased nineteen roses from Palatine in November, which were planted in December. All have completely leafed out and a few have buds. The attached rose seems to be rotting at the base.

The weather has been cool and windy on the Kohala Coast. We have had virtually no rain. The roses have not been fertilized.

Is this something I should be worried about. If so, is there anything I can do about it.

Take off any of the canes that look blackened at the base. Even if there is green further up the cane it will more than likely die any way. It seems to be confined to the center of the graft. The outer canes appear to be green all the way down. Perhaps there was some injury to the plant at that spot that caused them to die off.
