I'm going to attend a Winter rose care class being held at Los Gatos (Calif.) Library on Jan. 14. (on ZOOM)
I'm going to do it because my daughter, whom I have not seen for ages due to this stupid pandemic,
is attending...and because I'm interested. The leader is Pamela Roper; perhaps she's on this list.

I want to see how it's done in another climate. I don't think that 20 degree weather is part of their syllabus...

I cut back in December, into January if I don't finish, clean up leaves, boom, done!
Mulching probably next month.

Here in New York, I leave it for the winter and start to cut back in late March.
Seems to work.

I used to live in Los Angeles for 17 yrs with about 90 roses. Winterizing wasof little concern as roses just thrive there! However, I usually pruned back in Dec or JAN , they went to sleep for a little while in mild winter, and then all my roses thrived growing by leaps and bounds starting in March-Dec. Tgey really grew too tall! I looked for ways to "thwart their growth! Lol!" But I always used good fertilizer and nutrient rich soil.

Now, living in NY, with temps of 20-30 degrees and lower I winterize with adding new nutrient rich soil and burlap bags every Oct and Nov. I prune back and clean up leaves in early April. Blooms come in late May or June.

I hope you enjoyed your Zoom winterizing class. Any new news on winterization for roses?
