I'd love to see a map of where our users are located, say one with pins on it or even one that shows where people log in from.

Rick I like your idea and the system is better but this should be kept for those who would like to go further into the complications. Another link perhaps. I am coming across people whose mental capabilities have become compromised due to disease, ill health or old age. Just the right sort who would be interested in plants to hold on to what is left. Not trying to step on tender toes.

I'm not creating a new thread because I don't have more that I need to say.

I guess more posts on this thread are appropriate if we are still speculating about features to ask Dave to add (like Arif's idea about a small Koppen map under the gardening calender (map of the world?).

Or maybe some web application that looked up Koppen zones in YOUR area (by ZIP code and county or nearby city) and suggested what your zone might be, or highlighted regions of the globe that matched your zone, or found other ATPeople in your climate zone, assuming they had checked some check box(es) in their Profile.

Those are still "Site Talk" topics and fit into this thread OK.

At first I thought that discussion threads that spun off from that map or app would belong in "All Things Gardening" or some kind of "climate zone / regional" forum. But now I realize, "no", we are still trying to think of what to do with, or how to use, such a map to facilitate gardening.

So maybe this thread is still usable for this discussion, unless it becomes so big and active that it needs to be split and/or moved.

I would contribute something to any such thread or group, but I'm not the driving force for it.

Let me know know how I can help ... I see that you are giving it a lot of thought and you have a strong desire to do something helpful with the climate idea.

I am and the writeup on Google is more then enough but then I come across people who I know will get confused with it. The problem will be how to make it into simple, chewed, regurgitated language? Maybe ask Sharon, she may have an answer.

Very, VERY cool! Are those addresses from our profiles, or derived somehow from our IP address?

Must be from our profiles because i didn't show up until I changed my profile from just the province to the city.

I really like this feature. I added the link to my sig block as "ATP Member Map".

I hope Dave keeps it around and adds it to the Web App page.

Some of the locations will appear wrong if the user enters strange things into their location. My location to coordinates has trouble sometimes with odd things added.

Like if you say, "Jacksonville, TX Zone 8b!!" then it might not find you properly, or will place you in Siberia or Ethiopia.
