I moved into my first house from an apartment last June and wanted to wait until this year to start working on the landscaping, so I could see what everything looked like through the seasons. There are 2 planting areas in the front I'm wanting to work on; I'm fine buying, planting and maintaining everything myself but I have no sense for design really. The area in the first pic is directly to the right of the front door; the 2 plants growing on the ends are daylilies and there's another toward the right end that looked like a small white daisy in the summer. The rest of the area is basically bare.
The second pic is to the left of the door. There are again a few daylilies there, and some butterfly bushes in the back which I like. In the front there are a few echinacea/coneflower plants which I like too, but you can't see them yet in this pic.
Any suggestions for either of these areas? I don't like things that look super manicured and love lots of color, flowers, etc. and it would obviously be nice for there to be "year-round" interest if possible. I. live in Indianapolis, which according to the map is USDA zone 6a.
Thanks for any suggestions!!
