We bought a great house in Sacramento about a year ago that came with 25 rose bushes planted by the original owner in the 1950's. Both the previous owner and our wonderful neighbor honor-bound us to care for these roses. Our neighbor was good friends with the woman who planted them and cares for these roses to honor her... you're getting the picture by now -- these roses are important.
So, of course, a neighbor kid was over today and somehow managed to snap one of our beautiful Peace Rose Trees.
I don't know much about gardening and even less about roses, but the quick education I've gotten this afternoon tells me the tree was made of 1-2 grafts to create a tree that's roughly 5' tall. The break is just below the bottom graft at roughly 3 feet. The top is in great shape and there are a couple of 1/2" stems that are still green wood.
I looked at potentially standing it back up and binding it together, but the break is complete and it just doesn't look possible. I've looked online everywhere I can but a peace tree of any height is out of stock and this height appears impossible to find in any variety.
My thought is I could maybe graft the large stem from the top 1/3rd into the existing base section, then try to pot another stem. After a year or so, could I try to graft the potted stem into the grafted stem? Is that even how this tree was created in the first place?
I seriously doubt my ability to do this correctly. Is there anyone out there I could somehow ask to grow this for me?
I'm desperate here... what are my options?
