Hi guys, I have a yard FULL of what I think is a rose of Sharon. There is one that is variegated which I'm not sure whether or not is rare.

Anyways, these things spread themselves so easily and I find myself plucking maybe a hundred of them out of the yard in various stages of growth each year to try to keep them contained.

Am I throwing away an opportunity by doing this? Are these something people would like buy if I dig them up and sell them, or are they really quite as disposable as I'm treating them?

You can put them in small containers, select the most eyecatching once they start blooming and put them up for sale locally: just advertise they are propagated from open pollinated seeds. Rose of Sharon proper (Hibiscus syriacus) doesn't need much in way of fertile ground or care so it's just a matter of getting some nursery containers and generic potting compound.

You can try, but you'd have to have them potted with a reasonably established root ball- and that is a lot of dirt and pots and space. I don't think you're the first person to realize they spread rapidly.

If you are a garden person, your best bet is to offer them on a local forum like craigslist or facebook marketplace or next door For free or trade. It's a great way to meet other people, share mother nature's bounty and maybe get something back.
