Found some little succulent cuttings in my garden either starting to form little roots or new babies..

Just using an oyster shell I saved from New Year and repurposing this green pencil holder, putting it inside a used plastic solo cup with a hole below for drainage, it will also catch some loose soil from the main container.

Cool! I would only be concerned about salts if it were a salt-water oyster shell, but otherwise I think it's a great little planter!

Just another leaf cutting, this time from my jade plant.

I started this last 24Jan2013 -indoors: just laying it on top of the soil mix; had the leaf end callus first, last photo shows the callus much better:

Then I brought it outdoors in late Feb, it made its new growth faster once getting direct sun, and nice to see it turn reddish as well:

I saw that on this planter area, there was another leaf that has fallen earlier on and it is also making its new growth, it fell on the shady side of the planter:

And more recent photos taken on 03Apr2013: pretty much same status, but the reddish hue is gradually diminishing now as warmer weather has already started to return this Spring.

So far it it has been growing by my west facing window by the sink, but the plants facing indoors, I think I can let it face towards the window now, so it can get a little more direct light. Will update again later on as it goes.

Hi Jelinda! Thanks Big Grin

The mix for that jade succulent in the smaller container is akadama, kanuma and some lava rock. I buy them in little baggies from a Japanese garden shop in San Francisco and then I mix them up. The jade cutting in the bigger planter area is just using cactus soil with some perlite.

You are so funny Greg Big Grin That japanese garden shop actually specializes in bonsai, and they use those for their bonsai. I looked at the texture of the soil and figured it will be good for the succulents. I like it most that when watered the soil gets darker or the other gets yellow colored, so once they turn brown and the other white, I can visually tell the soil has gone dry. Smiling
