Thread OP

So these Hen and Chicks have been in the ground here in Massachusetts since this past spring, and have been doing generally very well. Lots of offshoots and growth. We had an extremely wet summer so far, only in the past couple of weeks have we had extended periods of sun. It's been relatively hot too. Lately these things have developed some blotchy spots, nearly all of them in this section of the garden. I have others on the other end of the garden that are going just fine and normal looking. I've attached a couple of pictures. Thanks for checking them out!

Hi tempsempy, and welcome to NGA's Sempervivum forum. A quick question, is the other end of the bed in some shade, protected from the sun?
@JungleShadows Kevin, does this look like the beginning of rot? Did you ever have this happen when you live in Massachusetts?
I see she is getting into some sun and heat after lots of rain.

Hi Valleylynn,
Yes actually the ones that are doing better are at the shadier side of the garden. Funny I hadn't considered they might get too much sun since they're succulents, but I guess too much of a good thing. Do you think these things will make it, or have they been damaged irreparably?

Hi Tempy,
It does look like damage caused by a combination of too much sun and water. The damaged rosettes may continue to produce new leaves from the center of the rosette. If so they will eventually be beautiful again.
Keep us updated on how they do. Maybe next week you can post new photos. Hurray!

Sorry I missed this before but I would agree with Lynn. I know MA has lots of rain this year plus higher than normal temps.

They'll bounce back I'm sure!
