Thread OP

How do I separate this? Just arbitrarily cut? I've soaked this in war for a few hours already and this seems to be the best that can be done.

I usually just get some scissors and lop the top off the rosettes I want to keep, just above ground level... never tried to separate the roots, never had any need to do so, because the cuttings root quite fast (fast enough that they form a clump after a year's time). The mother plant will branch endlessly at the site of the cuts so keep her around if you want to see what happens.

If you grab the base of the plant/ pup you want to separate and gently pull sideways and slightly down they will separate . There will some breakage at the root level ,but as long as you give them time to callous over (few days to a week depending your climate ) them they will be ok .

If you want to take out some of the height then follow baja's advice , again making sure you give the plant base time to heal / callous before you pot up

Thanks! I'll try to cut vertically. It's impossible to pull right now as they are too entangled. Hopefully some roots are better than no roots.

I took pruner, made a big cut and was I able to pull them apart. Got them into 5 pots. I'll update in a few months on whether the all survive or not.
