Thread OP

I recently purchased a tall Brug with yellow blooms. I did a heavy pruning to get it to fill in bushier but I had tons of cuttings. I just put them in water and now I have a ton of new plants! No complaints - I was wondering if that is normal? Are they that easy to root? Would anyone like to swap for different colors?

Thanx,
Marcia

Hey Marcia, It really depends on the variety and the time of year if they will root easily in water. Once the nubbies appear then it's time to put them into soil. The sooner they are in soil the better the plant will be. Did you plant come with a label with a name on it? What color or name are you seeking to add?

I have been growing Brugmansias since a friend gave me one to over winter in our greenhouse in 1995. They can become addictive once you smell them at night.

Here is one of our crosses: B. kHT's Pink

B. Shorty's Variegated which was found locally.

The guy I purchased it from was a bit of a nightmare. He said it was a datura and really didn't say anything more. I wasn't able to find the plants locally and haven't had much luck ordering plants for some reason, so I took a chance and bought it from him. Once I cut it back it really is filling in quite nicely!!

It's a little deeper yellow than the one in the picture.
I'm not looking for anything particular-just more! lol

Your pink is a lovely shade.
Thank you for the info Thank You!

At one time they were all classified under Datura but not the same. Brugmansia, angel trumpets bloom downward where as Daturas, devils trumpets bloom upward. Be warned they are habit forming!! When I was heavily into them, my family thought I was nuts to dig up the back yard to plant the 124 varieties we had then but these days I'm limited to
what I can raise. I mainly grow the ones I hybridize and a few that I test for others. I still have to many to house in the
10' X10' Brug house. I have a few tissue cultures ones that are the best of the brugs in my opinion. Let me know when you are ready to add more.

These are some of the cuttings I'll have next year.
