I've never seen the unopened buds of a brugmansia before. Look like little okra pods. How cute! A fellow that used to live down the street from me had a white one in his front yard. It was about 10' tall I suspect. It was not potted so he lost it in a fluke freeze/ice storm in 2012. I have missed seeing it on my walks ever since.

The lady that used to live in my current house some 8 blocks away stopped by yesterday to pick up a piece of mail that came here for her. She said she was going to bring me a cutting off her yellow and pink brugs next time she came. Hope she remembers. I've always liked these plants.

My Charles Grimaldi is in the garage for the winter now. He's just about finished with blooming. What a show he out on. The best bloom I have ever gotten. One day there were 34 blooms open.
Now the plant is hitting the ceiling of the garage and most of the leaves have dropped off except for the very top ones. I'd like to start some new plants from him, but when would be the best time? The plants will be in the garage until the middle of April at least. We can even get frost during the first week of May.

Easiest plant i've ever propagated, when i trim mine an throw the limbs on the burn pile. if i don't burn'um fer a couple a weeks the stems that touch the ground take root. Spring would prolly be best fer you to root'um. Just take cuttings an stick'um in the ground or pots. Don't even need root tone. I have white, yeller an pink.

GlennR, B. CG is one of the easy to root ones like zeta7 pointed out. Lots of folks swear by putting them
in water to root. But this time of year, I would suggest putting damp paper towels around the lower
part of the cutting you take and setting it in a jar with just a few tablespoons of water. The paper towel
will stay damp with the min. water and the stalk should put on the nubs in less than a week if kept warm.
Once one see the nubs, then it's time to put in soil as that is best for the plant. I have had folks tell me
by the time they get our cuttings they have found nubs, so I tell them to plant in small pots. Hope this
helps. Then there are plants that you need to start during the growing season and not during the winter months.

@GlennR I would start some cuttings from your Charles Grimaldi now, if you have a sunny windowsill for them. Take cuttings about 10in. or a foot long. Rooting is easy, either in water or with paper towel as suggested above. They form roots quite quickly and within 2 weeks you'll need to pot them up. There's no reason to wait, as you'll just have bigger, healthier plants by spring that will bloom sooner if you start them now.

Keep moist and once they leaf out keep on a sunny windowsill - your winter sun is weak enough and days short enough that they will be very happy. Indoors, spider mites can be a concern, but you just need to take the plants to the sink and spray them down with water maybe once a week to keep that under control. Spider mites hate water, they like it warm and dry. Keep a close eye out for them though.

Here in FL brugs grow and bloom right through the winter if we don't get a strong cold front. I get blooms about every 4 to 5 weeks. Mine just finished a bloom cycle, and I'm going to make some cuttings now because they need to be pruned.

Thanks to everyone. I think that I will start some new plants after the holidays, as we will be traveling. I wonder if my original plant was started from below the first "Y" as it takes most of the summer to put on the first bloom. It will be nice to enjoy blooms earlier in the year. Thank You!
