Thread OP

This plant stem has gotten a little woody and the leaves are not completely flat. Almost similar feel as spring onion or aloe. Help please!

Nothing yet, still trying to figure it out.

It's like an aloe and a dracena had a baby that grew up in a dark room.

Were the leaves flat before?

Woody stems shouldn't be an issue, probably just means the plant is maturing.

Been staring at the photo for 30 minutes, looking up different guesses.

The growth reminds me of leeks.

Hi Scot1329, Welcome! to the site!

I'm not at all familiar with succulents but it sure looks like a variety of spineless Aloe to me. I'll submit a request to move this over to our Cactus & Succulent Forum where hopefully someone will recognize it and be able to give you an exact ID.

Hi & welcome! I wonder if it could be this?
Red Yucca (Hesperaloe parviflora)

Is it in the most sunny spot that you have available?

There is nothing soft or succulent about a red yucca. Smiling

It does look a lot like Aloiampelos tenuior that might possibly need more light.

Thank you, Daisy! I saw one once and got some seeds but I didn't touch the foliage.

No, don't touch - its like playing with little sawblades. If you wanted seeds, I could have sent you (literally) a cup full about a week ago. Hilarious!

Thank you! : ) I'll try to keep that in mind next fall if none of my seeds sprout. "Sawblades" doesn't sound like a plant I would keep around permanently (unless useful to hummingbirds) but I'd like to watch some go from seed to bloom. I don't play with sawblades often but when I do, I'm never sober - no, just kidding - but it's usually more fun when red flowers are involved. Luckily I'm not at any risk of laceration now because I saw the plant in TX. Do you see hummingbirds visiting the blooms? Looks like the kind of bloom they might find useful.

I third the ID of Aloiampelos, and it DEFINITELY needs more light. That's why it's flopping over and sprawling instead of upright, and the stems are twisting around on themselves -- it's trying to reach the light! I don't know this particular species, but aloes in general need a lot of light. Indoors, that means right up in a window that gets at least a few hours of direct sun, or else under a grow light.
