Cricket Hill Garden is having a sale on their peony umbrellas this week. I am wondering if anybody has ever used them in the garden? Are they any good? How do they handle wind? I am looking to get several for my tree peonies since the price has come down a lot.

Karen - I only use umbrellas in my nursery to protect peony seedlings at noon. Those on the Cricket Hill website must surely have to be buried more than 6 inches - perhaps that's in 6 inches of concrete Rolling on the floor laughing
They look quite fragile and not really wide enough to protect more than one peony so I would have to give them a Thumbs down

I always wanted one of those parasols from Cricket Hill for Hoki, but they look very fragile. I wonder if I can find something similar in China Town.

I love that photo, Oscar! Lovey dubby

Jasmin, if you are going shopping there anyway, you should keep your eye out for one.

I got some beach umbrellas for shading peonies but they did not work out too well. The winds blew them away. You know, it is like how the winds flip up part of the umbrella and then make them kind of airborne. I wonder if these umbrellas from Cricket Hill work better against the wind.

Oscar, I think the reason that the IKEA umbrellas work for you is because your garden is pretty protected by the fence. Mine is not fenced in so my garden is not protected from winds.

My umbrellas are two big avocado trees, haha. I think we have Santa Ana Wind here so I'm not going to waste money on buying them.

Karen: I live very close to windy city Rolling on the floor laughing . Even the sturdy trashcans will blow away by strong winds during the garbage collection day.
