I got some beach umbrellas for shading peonies but they did not work out too well. The winds blew them away. You know, it is like how the winds flip up part of the umbrella and then make them kind of airborne. I wonder if these umbrellas from Cricket Hill work better against the wind.
Oscar, I think the reason that the IKEA umbrellas work for you is because your garden is pretty protected by the fence. Mine is not fenced in so my garden is not protected from winds.
