If you have more plants than great spots by sunny windows, and they have to come inside to escape freezing weather at times, you have probably seen some etiolation. Stretching, fading, leaning, curling to expose more surface area to the reduced, sidways light. What plants have you caught in the act of etiolating?

Love for you to thumb this post if you want, but please don't thumb the pics because they shouldn't rise to the top of their respective database pages because they are not good examples, just examples of "needs more light."

Just about everything that tries to actively grow after being moved inside Sad . I think the Echeverias and Kalanchoe types are the worst. They just aren't easily coaxed into anything resembling dormancy and, as a result, always put up weak growth stretching toward the window. Thumbs down

Yes, not everything fits close to a window here, and the things that do are leaning hard. I'm looking @ plant butts by this time. If you want to share some pics, we can commiserate. Most of my pics will be after I start moving stuff around again. For now, the puzzle is tight.

It's so cramped with poor overhead lighting it's nearly impossible to take a photo Hilarious! . And right now I'm not too bendable, so that makes it worse. When the light is poor like that, my cameras tend to be badly out of focus.

Some good things can come from etiolation. This stem was weak and flopped over. Now there's a new growth at each of these nodes, not just individual leaves.

Here's an example, Drosanthemum hispidum.
I left some outside the first time this winter. Outside plant with tight, short, fat foliage.

All of this stretched, spindly, etiolated growth

...was trimmed from this plant and stuck in the above pot today.

I have a few too and these even get an hour of direct sun but in my back porch, have not had the chance to move them out yet.

Even my desert roses that were kept more interior, leaves look weak and etiolated:

These are cuttings from when I repotted a couple Adeniums. I put fresh cuttings when I repot. I didn't have time to repot these succulents so I just placed these in a shallow container with no drain but I might leave them because they look happy 😂
