Thread OP

I just bought this recently and although I did notice the discoloration at the base, it felt firm so I assumed it was just corking and not rotting. But now a couple months later it's turning brown at the tips? I've only watered it a small amount maybe two or three times and I checked to make sure it was well draining. It's not in direct sunlight either so I wouldn't think it's sunburn.. Does the discoloration look like rot? Fungus? Is there anything I can do?

There are a lot of un-answered questions in your question:

How long ago was "bought recently?" How much is "watered it a small amount?" How often is "maybe two or three times?" What is it potted into - Is that a beer can? Did you put holes in the bottom? At what point did the tips turn brown? Do they feel soft? Does the still green part of the plant feel soft? What light exposure?

Where are you located? Outside weather and light conditions do affect indoor plants. The pot has a Prop. 65 label so you must be in the U.S. someplace.

Corking is something that happens with age, your plant is just a seedling. There are other conditions that cause what appears to be corking.

Daisy has asked some good questions. Maybe with some more information, we could give you a better answer. If that were my plant, I would get rid of it. It might grow out of the current situation (maybe a fungal problem), but it might stay that way forever if you don't change something about care (relating to light, water, air flow, or the container maybe).
